Rail Baltica Growth Corridor - Driver of Change
Rail Baltica Growth Corridor (RBGC) project worked for fostering the competitiveness of the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) by improving accessibility in the Eastern part of the Baltic Sea Region. RBGC brings benefits for cities and regions, transport sector and citizens by stimulating sustainable economic growth in local, national and regional levels. Project partnership builds strongly on triple helix cooperation between city and regional authorities, transport service provider, and universities. RBGC is linked to the wider concept of Rail Baltica – a railway that will connect the Eastern Baltic Sea Region from north to south branching from St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga, Kaunas and Warsaw to Berlin. The Region gains new economic potential as the major business hubs will be connected with North-West Russia and the EU core.

Creative economy and creative industries in the Baltic Sea Region

The research theme analyzes the development of the creative economy, and the challenges faced by creative industry entrepreneurs from different viewpoints. The current state of creative industries in Russia was examined as a part of the preparatory work for the Northern Dimension Partnership for Culture. A collaborative study with the Small Business Center of Aalto University School of Business analyzed the internationalization of Finnish creative industry enterprises, and their need for support. Currently we are finalizing a report on film industry networks in the Baltic Sea Region as part of the BaltMet Promo project, financed from the EU’s Baltic Sea Region programme 2007-2013 and led by the City of Helsinki.

We have conducted research on this topic as part of EU-funded projects, led by the Small Business Center of the Aalto University School of Business). In the Tacis-funded project Entrepreneurship Development (2007-2008) we analyzed St. Petersburg university students’ perceptions of entrepreneurship, and compared them with data on Finnish students. Currently we are finalizing the research conducted for the Creative Entrepreneurship Network CREAENT project (2009-2012), funded by the Central Baltic Interreg IVA programme.
